And so it begins.... :)

Haiiii! :)

Grab a cup of "joe" or some tasty tea and read along on my journey these past two weeks!

It's been such a whirlwind of the past two weeks or so! I've had such exciting adventures and been learning more about Urban Promise! Some of the things I've done are hiked the Chief mountain in Squamish! I've been able to cook yummy food for the house i'm living in! Ventured out into Vancouver and explored! Had orientation with different staff and learned more about what my specific job will look like here in Vancouver! I also had the wonderful chance to sneak away to Vancouver Island to rest up before I started camp this week! My time on the island was rejuvenating! Just what I needed! How the Father knows all of our needs and gives our hearts rest! I can't even begin to explain what a beautiful weekend it was catching up with friends and family. My heart was filled by the Father and I was drawn to thinking of how we all need rest. We get so busy and forget to just sit and take in the beauty around us. I woke up early both mornings this Saturday and Sunday. I took time for myself in the morning not feeling rushed and had a cup of coffee while relaxing and getting ready for the day. I tend to rush myself continually with last minute things and wake up just in time to run to the next activity I have planned. This weekend reminded me how important it is to take time especially in the morning before rushing out the door. I want to try to do this more and see how my days go with not starting off rushing myself. Just a thought and reflection as I had a beautiful weekend of much needed rest.

I've been experiencing community living these past two weeks or so. All of us interns live in a house minus two who are living around the corner. To paint a picture there are 7 girls and one guy who is the house manager. God bless the man for putting up with all us girls! He ensures that house chores are in order, manages scheduling and does website designing. The house we all live in is also the Urban Promise head office in Vancouver. Main floor is the kitchen and office and upstairs is where the rooms are. We each are given a meal (dinner) a week to cook for everyone (8 people)! Last week I made butter chicken with some good ol naan bread! To top it off for dessert I made a choco chocolate fudge brownie with gnache on top (a fudge like topping). I haven't really been cooking in the kitchen in a while, so it was so refreshing to be able to do my own thing and cook up a tasty meal! It's also nice to be cooked for other nights of the week by others who have their own twist on what their favorites are! I'm excited for more great meals!

A little bit about my Job/Internship:
A part of Urban Promises mission is to equip young leaders to lead and empower them to experience belonging and success! They do this very well as I've learned more things over the past little bit! Starting today is day camps for 6 weeks with the same kids. Kids that come to the day camps are anywhere from grade 1-6. There are street leaders who are grades 7 & 8 as well as highschool kids who are Senior street leaders. These two groups of street leaders are so key to running day camps! Urban Promises staff help lead and facilitate these leaders to step up and lead games, art, cooking and much more! As a staff my role is to speak into the lives of the streeleaders who are grades 7 & 8. I walk life along side of them encouraging them, loving on them, offering devotions, helping them with activities and having fun! I think to myself WOW, I get to do this sort of job! It seems to fun to be real! These streetleaders and as well as senior (highschool) streetleaders are so eager to do their very best and plan great activities for the kids! It's exciting to see and I look forward to see how the summer pans out!

Food for thought from meeeee to you!
Lately I've been pondering prayer. Thinking the significance of it and the power of it. Realizing I often put down the power prayer can have over our lives. I have a really neat story to share that got me thinking once again the significance of prayer in life should be this constant conversation with the Father. Although he knows our needs he wants us to speak them to him and talk to him so that He may know our voice. I have thought about buying a journal specifically for pray requests. So I can tangibly see my prayers written down instead of just thinking about things in my head. Anywho here is my story...

A few weeks ago I traveled downtown Toronto with my friend Erin. We went to a church called Vantage church which was super awesome and than we decided we wanted to get a snack afterward. We wanted fries and a coffee....random I know haha! So we went to get fries and than headed to  Panera bread! YUMMM! We had good conversation with the workers about how they put all the calories right on their board you order from. We laughed and tried to find the LARGEST calorie meal....which was "homemade" macaroni and cheese! Something like 1200 calories if I recall right. After ordering our london fogs made by a kind gentleman we went upstairs to sit down and chat :) After good conversation for a while we decided we should hop back on the subway to head back home. As we were leaving a worker of Panera bread was handing out all their leftover baked goods for FREE!! Nothing like free stuff....i'm on it!! We took some cookies and pastry's with us as we headed out and thanked them. I thought to myself I'm definitely not going to eat all of this, but you know when things are free you just want it all even though you don;t need it? I kind of got over zealous about it! So I thought to myself I'm going to give it away to someone who may want it! I got on the bus to go towards the subway and kept thinking who was I going to give all these baked goods to. Me and Erin got off the bus towards the subway and as we were walking in to the subway station I prayed to the Father and said God please put someone in my path that I may bless them with these goodies! A short little prayer that I thought if He wants it to happen it's going to happen! About 2 minutes later I show the subway guy my transfer slip who is working and he looks at me and asks, "is that for me?" I thought he meant my transfer slip so I was confused for a minute. Than it clicked and I realized he was talking about the box of pastry's I had in my other hand. Than he smiled and laughed at me again and said "is that for me?" He was indeed partially joking but I at this point was like "YAAAAYYY ofcouse its for you! Take it :)!!!" I explained I got these things for free and I wanted to give them away to others! So after he got over that I wasn't joking in return he smiled, said thank you and took the box. I thought to myself how AWESOME! But it didn't dawn on me yet I had just prayed about running into someone I could give the pastry's away to! I got on the subway and than it clicked, I said to Erin WHOOOA I just prayed for God to put someone in front of my path to give the pastry's away and he did!! We thought it was super cool and talked about it for a moment as we rode the subway! I still had a bag of chocolate chip cookies with me that I still wanted to give away. A young boy about age 6 and his mother came onto the subway after a few stops. They sit down and I smiled at the young boy....I"ll try and describe this as unawkward as i can HAHA...this little boy was really funny! He started to move closer to me on the bench he was sitting on and put his hand on my knee and looked up at me and said hello with a smiling face. I couldn't help but laugh and think to myself is this 6 year old trying to flirt with me in an innocent funny way HAH. Needless to say as he had his hand on my knee as the whole car of subway people were starring as to what my reaction was going to be! Beside me Erin was already laughing her head off! Within a span of probably 3o seconds Erin laughed, I laughed and than the whole subway car laughed hysterically. His Mom noticed that her son had his hand on my knee and pulled him back saying you can't touch strangers like that (in a soft tone she spoke not mad). I told her oh it's ok no worries and laughed. A minute or two went by and he made his way slowly again closer to me and erin. He asked what our names were and told us his which was Monoah. He went to what I thought was to shake my hand but held it for a couple seconds longer than what a "normal" handshake was and so I laughed and started shaking his hand saying nice to meet you! After this funny scenario I asked his mom if I could give him the bag of chocolate chip cookies I had just gotten from Panera bread for free. She accepted them and Monoah was sure a happy boy to get some cookies! His mom was a gorgeous lady with really neat style! :)
In the end these two scenarios of the subway ticket man and the mom with her son on the subway was so heart warming! I prayed the Lord would put someone in my way to bless with the baked goods and he provided! If something as little as that is answered what else is God answering in our life? Some things we may not think he has provided but until later realize he has protected us. Our prayers can be as simple as. They don't have to be complex or in depth all the time. What I do know is that in the end God wants to hear our voice, he wants us to offer up our requests to Him.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6

How often are you faced with a situation and in your head your try EVERY avenue to figure it out yourself when all along the Father is saying come to me where your burden will be light and your yoke is easy. I constantly run into this scenario. In my own stubborn way I try with all my might and strength and not His to figure things out. This is a constant reminder to not rely on my own strength but HIS.

Matthew 11:28-30 says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

I am humbled by the words of our Father. He will give you rest, lean on him for he is so gentle, caring, compassionate and his love is not on condition. How is it that I do not turn to him more? Because I admit I am selfish and want to rely on my own ways. But He is my and our creator and I need to continually acknowledge that He knows me best in every thought, every action and every step I take in life.

Some prayers requests:
* I would find myself energized each morning as I wake up!
* Great things would happen within Urban promise and the Day camps they lead!
* That I would learn to trust God with my whole heart
* Leaders would be forming with gr.7-12 students helping lead these phenomenal day camps!

I trust this finds you well on a lovely summer day! Thanks for reading! Until next time!
Much Love,

Hello friends and family :)

Welcome to my blog for this summer! I'm happy that you have found your way here and I hope that what I write this summer will inspire, challenge and keep you in the know of whats going on with my internship at Urban Promise! I'm stoked to embark on this adventure this summer! My hope is to write on my blog once a week!

Below is a letter I have written in response to what I will be doing in Vancouver! :
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As many of you know this upcoming September I am attending my final year at Briercrest College & Seminary and I will be graduating with a BA in Psychology.

Today I’m writing to you to tell you about an exciting opportunity that has come up, which I consider to work hand in hand with my studies and long term vision. This summer I have the privilege to be an intern for nine-weeks in an intense summer program with Urban Promise in Vancouver, British Columbia from June 21st to August 17th. Urban Promise is an organization that “empowers children, youth and young adults to experience belonging and success.” As an intern I will be assisting the site directors with Summer Day Camps for children who are in under-resourced neighborhoods and will also have the chance to mentor local youth. My role will be youth ministry intern at Camp Peace/Grace in Vancouver. In this role I'll be leading a variety of activities such as crafts, Bible studies, games and day trips. It’s going to be a blast! I am so happy to be spending time out west and even more excited for all the different friendships and opportunities I will have to be God's love to others.

Would you consider partnering with me in prayer as I go to Vancouver to serve this summer and gain experience in a field that I could see myself settling in long-term?  This internship is also not a paid position. If you have the capacity to share financially I am able to provide tax receipts.

Thanks for your time!

God Bless,

Alivia Cecchi :)

Some prayer requests:
* That I would be teachable in my internship
* I would be used in radical ways to tell others abouts Jesus and set a good example in the way I live out my life daily in speech and action.

I really love this quote below and it signifies what I want my life to be. My desire is for the work I'll be doing with children and youth this summer for Christ to be seen in ALL!

“Not I but Christ be honored,
Love, exalted;
Not I but Christ be seen, be known, be heard;
Not I but Christ in every look and action;
Not I but Christ in every thought and word”

Walking in the Prescence of Jesus

ooiiiiii...Today I went for a beautiful walk....I felt the urge to go outside and just start walking and be alone in my thoughts...so often are we surrounded with such busy lives that we rarely stop and sit and think and spend time with the Lord...other than church and chapels etc... So today I felt the urge to go walking I ventured out on the grid roads....the site of the prairies is gorgeous..it goes on forever. You can see beautiful fields and the sun rising and setting and such BEAUTY! Walking today felt so freeing. I needed to knock some things off my chest with the Lord and just be in his prescence selflessly present myself to him in being raw and just talking with him. It was wonderful. I am a person that LOOOVES being around others...basically all the time...my energy comes from others at times...but a polar opposite of me is that in times I find most rest sometimes is by myself...HAH. Going for that walk helped my heart think through life and just praise Jesus and feel refreshed in his presence.

Pslam 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart
Matthew 11:28 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Jesus encourages us to come to him with our life and continually offer it up to him ...good or bad circumstances he loves to hear our heart as his children. Make sure you set that time aside to delight in the Lord and be in silence with him.
--------------

Today I pondered the phrase of "limited love"...feeling like from my previous post...if this is what it has to come to and than thinking...Nooooo...Jesus has unconditional love ...and we are to be like Jesus...If we are to be like him our love shall be unconditional? yess I beleive so...but to what extent still? If people are hurting us than what? Than there is a line to be drawn to protect your heart..yes. What does that look like though...the bible has many sweet verses on came to mind...

Protect your heart for it is the wellspring of life Proverbs 4:23 what does that look like to you?

Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. Hebrews 12:14-15
Grace: Divine love and protection bestowed freely on people

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins 1 Peter 4:8

mmm hope you liked my blaabber :) ha I don't have all the right answers I know that offcourse.. I just probe and question and search things out...if you have any feed back feel free to tell me :)

Joy found in trials...

ooooh Joy: a state of happiness or felicity!

I encountered joy amongst trials in a time where most would not be able to find joy...
when we are surrounding in trials we often get down and fester in the negativity we are surrounded in. But through Christ I have found joy in trials that seem to occur in my life. It's funny how in the midst of situations we often do not think or rarely think their could be good in it?....how fabulous of a Father we have to have HOPE in our life. In the book of James it talks about trials and overcoming them. I beleive that in our trials we must not lose sight of the bigger picture. Have hope in everything, love eachother and be positive. Negativity is what gets us down and what can rain down in such a poopy way that before we know it we are left feeling bitter. Be optimistic and sincere with relationships in life. If someone does a wrong to you, love them back even more; protect yourself yes, but love the other person still and be careful to not build up feelings of dislike.

There is Joy and Hope in everything....The jounery doesn't end here...it's a life choice...what are you going to choose?....
I know the constant state of hoping and having joy in each thing in life is what gets me through...my hope is found in Christ and my joy is also found in the situations in life i'm faced with that continually Christ gives me peace and peserverance to grow and learn to love even more through the tough times.

Inspiring!!

EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS:

Taken from the following website I included in the previous post to click on is an incredible analogy....just so heart warming!

The all important ingredient is focus and an attitude of trust in the Lord.

The following is one of the best illustrations I know of the importance of keeping a focused and right attitude:

The colorful, nineteenth-century showman and gifted violinist Nicolo Paganini was standing before a packed house, playing through a difficult piece of music. A full orchestra surrounded him with magnificent support. Suddenly one string on his violin snapped and hung gloriously down from his instrument. Beads of perspiration popped out on his forehead. He frowned but continued to play, improvising beautifully.

To the conductor’s surprise, a second string broke. And shortly thereafter, a third. Now there were three limp strings dangling from Paganini’s violin as the master performer completed the difficult composition on the one remaining string. The audience jumped to its feet and in good Italian fashion, filled the hall with shouts and screams, “Bravo! Bravo!” As the applause died down, the violinist asked the people to sit back down. Even though they knew there was no way they could expect an encore, they quietly sank back into their seats.

He held the violin high for everyone to see. He nodded at the conductor to begin the encore and then he turned back to the crowd, and with a twinkle in his eye, he smiled and shouted, “Paganini . . . and one string!” After that he placed the single-stringed Stradivarius beneath his chin and played the final piece on one string as the audience (and the conductor) shook their heads in silent amazement. “Paganini . . . and one string!”27 (And, I might add, an attitude of fortitude.)

Swindoll goes on to say:

This may shock you, but I believe the single most significant decision I can make on a day-do-day basis is my choice of attitude . . . Attitude is that “single string” that keeps me going or cripples my progress . . . When my attitudes are right, there’s no barrier too high, no valley too deep, no dream too extreme, no challenge too great for me.

Yet, we must admit that we spend more of our time concentrating and fretting over the strings that snap, dangle, and pop--the things that can’t be changed--than we do giving attention to the one that remains, our choice of attitude.28

For the Christian, however, we are not talking about just a positive attitude. We are talking about an attitude that comes from a heart focused on God and that trusts in Him.

think about this, probe, look at your life and evaluate your attitude to everything! In evyerhting we do, we can make a difference.

What difference are YOU going to make.

As I sit here in a coffee shop and wonder about life. I watch around me the people and interactions they have. I have to question the guy that works here, he is so happy and full of life and to every person he serves a drink to they smile and laugh. He brings such happiness to strangers faces with his spunk and style of serving coffees. I wonder if he knows our great God? People like him make me smile, to know that throughout the day that a random stranger behind a counter can make you smile from his random personality of smiles and love he has as he serves coffee. A true servants heart. I know of another lady at a café at school. I delight in her personality. Each time I buy something from the café. She smiles and is happy every time, I can’t think of any time I didn’t go in that she was rude or unhappy. She is such a joy to talk to and you can tell she really cares and loves life. I wonder what is under the surface for her. If underneath her smiles if there is hurt? What is her life like? I couldn’t imagine it being bad but people these days are so good at hiding behind their smiles. I am one of those people that with my personality I can easily suppress things and choose to fill the void in life with laughter and happiness that can sometimes be a show so people can’t see my hurt. Why is it that we are so scared to be vulnerable sometimes?

I think because when we are truly vulnerable we feel naked. We feel that we are exposed and it is scary. We wonder if people really knew our deepest things that we would not be accepted or that we would be treated or looked at differently. I also think that if at those moments of vulnerability the person or people you are vulnerable with, if they shut you down or you open up and they leave you with your words; you develop this unconsciousness to not reveal what your really thinking because of that one time you were shut down when you were open and raw with people.

My heart goes out to you.

I know the pain of opening up and feeling left to dry out. I know the feeling of not wanting to open up again because of fear of hurt or not being loved. I encourage you to open up and be able to love and say what you want to say without having to be loved back. To bring the meaning of vulnerable to a whole different level. To break free from it to find freedom. For God to be that comfort in time of feeling alone and not heard.

I won’t lie, I still struggle with being vulnerable.I am learning things about that myself that I am noticing to be careful of. Not because they are horrible but because I focus so much on others that I sometimes forget me. I'm too afraid of hurting others. I like to carry their burdens for them and be that shoulder to lean on. To be honest I could go for a while without thinking about me because I love people and I love loving on them. I’m a people pleaser. I love pleasing people and not letting people down. I love making people happy when they are sad and reaching out to the broken hearted. Often times I find it easier to reach out to those that are strangers and show them love than my own family. I’m not sure if that is because there is hurt around family. Also the whole issue of vulnerability scares me. I’m not sure but I know that I’m continually working on breaking free from vulnerability.

My definition of Vulnerable:

To be able to love and not be loved back

this is truely an awesome read if you have the time CLICK :)

some words that are inspiring I have come across:

*glory in God rather than in people.

* A believer’s greatest strength is focus, dependence and faith in the Lord, but this is also his greatest place of vulnerability.

*Defeat will always follow Victory!

*1 Corinthians 10:12 So let the one who thinks he is standing be careful that he does not fall.
